1814年9月, the United States and the city of 巴尔的摩 found itself under attack by the British empire as the 1812年战争 heightened. Fort McHenry was one of the city’s last defenses during the Battle of 巴尔的摩 (September 13-14, 1814). The valiant defense of the fort inspired Francis Scott Key to pen ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ which became the national anthem of the United States in 1931. Fort McHenry’s 历史 spans from the 1812年战争 to the Second World War and is preserved and interpreted throughout the park.
